Popcorn Fundraiser

Popcorn Sales are the #1, most important fundraising event that our Pack participates in each year. Our registration fee $270 per year, but our costs are about $405. After the $170 SA and TFC dues are taken out that leaves the pack with about $100 to cover about $235 per Scout. This is why Popcorn Sales and other fundraisers are so important to keep our pack running effectively. Our pack earns 30% of all popcorn sold.

In order to break even we need all Scouts to sell an average of about $500 worth of popcorn. This means we need to have a pack goal of about $12150-$16200 in popcorn sales! (These amounts are based on 30 Scouts in the Pack. Because some costs are split among everyone the actual goals may increase or decrease based on the size of our Pack.) This sounds like a lot, but in reality it amounts to each Scout selling about 3-5 items per week throughout the sale. If we fall short we have to make cuts in the amount of entertainment and food we supply at events, training and supply reimbursements we provide, and more. We will continue to offer pack events, however there may be ticket fees to cover some additional costs (e.g. the family campout may have a fee).

If each Scout is able to sell $500 worth of popcorn Pack 131 will be in a strong financial position and we will be able to cover or offset the cost of more pack events (like Medieval Times or sporting events), acquire new equipment for our pack (like camping gear, new Raingutter Regatta equipment, etc.), and provide additional leadership training opportunities to our adult volunteers (which can include YOU!). With the help of all Scouts, parents, and leaders, I'm confident that we'll be able to fund a great Scouting program for 2024 and beyond!

Get Your Dues Covered!

Pack 131 Dues, and even SA/TFC Dues can be partially or completely covered if your Scout sells popcorn in our fundraiser!

Sell $750 - receive 50% off Pack Dues (Pack Dues will be $50)
Sell $1500 - receive Full Pack Dues (a $100 value)
Sell $3000 - receive SA/TFC Dues (a $270 value: Pack + SA/TFC)

Popcorn Rewards

Each Scout can also work towards a number of different rewards.

Each year Three Fires Council and Trails-End have prizes for various sales goals. Scouts can earn Amazon Gift Cards to purchase things like sporting goods, pocket knives, camping gear, Lego sets, and more! There are also plenty of patches and other rewards that can be earned. Three Fires Council also has additional incentives and prizes for reaching various sales goals and weekly challenges. In the past these have included VIP tickets to Chicago Wolves games, Medieval Times, Monster Jam, and other awesome prizes.

In addition to these, Pack 131 also offers some prizes:

All Sellers - All Scouts who sell anything get to throw a pie at the Cubmaster!
$500 Sellers - All Scouts who sell at least $500 get to throw a bunch of pies at the Cubmaster!
$750 Sellers - Get your own can of Whipped Cream to spray on the Cubmaster!
$1000 Sellers - Add sprinkles to the Cubmaster!
Special prizes for Top Sellers!

Plus, some awards for Pack Goals if the whole Pack reaches these amounts (these goals may vary based on Pack membership):

$7,500 – Pack Whipped Cream Dump on Cubmaster - by the top sellers.
$10,000 – Throw Marshmallows at the Cubmaster - all Scouts!
$12,500 – [REDACTED] - Super Special Pack Prize
$15,000 – Dye the Cubmaster's beard!
$20,000 – Dye the Cubmaster's hair, too!

Popcorn Selling Tips

Always wear your uniform.
Always smile and introduce yourself. Speak loudly and clearly.
Always maintain eye contact and be confident.
Always ask your customers if they would like to support Scouting.
Always know the popcorn flavors you are selling.
Always say "Thank You" even if they didn't buy anything.
Keep Moving - the more people you approach and talk to, the more popcorn you will sell.
Keep Smiling - be cheerful, polite and courteous.

Safety Tips

Buddy System - always have a buddy or adult with you when selling.
House Rules - politely decline to enter a stranger's house unless an adult is with you.
Money Matters - keep checks and cash in a Trails End sale envelope with your name on it.
Road Rules - walk on the sidewalk whenever possible and always look both ways when crossing the street.
Curfew - never sell after dark.
